Relevant Magazine offers some excellent advice for those who find it a chore to read their Bibles and continue to develop a relationship with God. Have a read, and be challenged!

How to Get Out of A Devotional Rut
Relevant Magazine (Matt Ward), 12th August 2010

"Why do we so often forget the relationship that inspires our Bible reading?

Maybe you can relate … you wake up with barely enough time to get yourself ready and after downing your second cup of coffee and glancing at something that may resemble breakfast, your eyes cross your Bible. It’s been lying there, taunting you, for days now. Unmoved. Unread. Why? It wasn’t always like this. What happened?

Might I suggest you are experiencing something that scores of Christians have walked through, often multiple times throughout their lives? This wave-like pattern of thirst for Scripture coupled with the dry rut of avoidance. No one likes ruts—dirt roads or spiritual, they are all disdained.

Do We Need A Christian PM?
Thursday, 12 August 2010

Article by Cameron Spink

It is only this week that many people have realised that the Christian position remains largely undefined in this political election. So, to counter-balance this several articles have been released this week to express Christian perspectives.

First there was Mark Stephens article on On Line Opinion titled “The Complexity of the ‘Christian Vote’”. He details that many Christians are part-platform (i.e. some policy support but not universal) voters, which I believe has more truth in this election that it ever has. Mark Stephens also outlines a desire for politicians to “express their beliefs and values”. In summary, Mark wants a wise government, “in the biblical sense of wisdom”.

Here is a very pertinent article on The Punch about how neither of the significant political parties are offering incentives for young people to cast a vote for them.

Young voters trampled in stampede for family vote
The Punch, 12th August 2010

"To the 100,00-odd, predominately young voters, who courtesy of Get-Up, will be making their first quivering steps towards the polling booth in a couple of weeks - let me apologise on behalf of the two major parties.
They’re just not that into you.

For both Labor and the Coalition, the love is gone for younger voters. In fact, the two major parties seem to have forgotten these voters whose sway at the ballot box last time around was lauded as having helped unseat a decades-old reigning political force in their mad scramble for the “family” vote.

The Fear of Loneliness
Tuesday, 10 August 2010

Article by Cameron Spink

An article in today’s Age, by Samantha Brett, asks the question as to whether soul mates actually exist? Whether "the one" is just around the corner? This is a remarkable view for a secular approach. If, indeed, we are just particles and chance plays the predominant role in our evolution then soul mates cannot exist as, from this worldview, there is no real argument for love.

While atheism does not ascribe to such a concept as each individual person having "the one" completely compatible person for them, this wide-spread belief that the right person does exist conforms to a person’s innate fear that they will be alone at the end of their lives. This fear transcends all supposed logic and science that intelligent people, who debunk the idea of a deity, have no qualms believing in. It can only be wishful thinking that there would be a harmonically-matched partner out there and, what’s more, the world would provide them with such a system to meet that person.

Thinking About the 2010 Election
Thursday, 05 August 2010

Bill Muehlenberg provides us with some very good thoughts in regards to the Christian Values Checklist concerning the coming federal election.

Thinking About the 2010 Election
Bill Muehlenberg, 3rd August 2010

"In a fallen world there is no perfect political party, no perfect political candidate, and no perfect political policy. Indeed, we must always keep in mind Psalm 146:3: “Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save”. But we must also recall that God has ordained the institution of the state to maintain justice and punish evil (Romans 13:1-7).

The Old Debate
Tuesday, 03 August 2010
An interesting article was released today regarding the teachings in RI (Religious Instruction) in Queensland that man and dinosaurs roamed the earth together.
This concept will, no doubt, be very unpopular with the scientific community, however, I'm more keen on what views the reader has regarding this incident.

Creationists hijack lessons and teach schoolkids man and dinosaurs walked together
Courier-Mail, Sunday August 1st 2010

"Primary school students are being taught that man and dinosaurs walked the Earth together and that there is fossil evidence to prove it.
