By the size of this article you may think that I am not doing this topic justice (or perhaps if you believe evolution is empirical fact then you may think that I have already written too much already). However, I am not going to discuss any of the arguments for and against. That would require a lengthy book, one of which I do not have the expertise nor the desire to write. Several have and many groups like Creation Ministries have devoted their research and energy to such pursuits. So if one wants a proper discussion on the ins and outs of the creationist side it is worth visiting their website. There are numerous atheistic and even theistic (see Biologos) websites that stand on the opposite view.

So if I am not discussing the arguments for creationism or evolution then why have I got an article with such a provocative title? It is simply because a very recent Gallup poll has brought some very interesting results that are worth our attention. Here is the question and the results:

What we find, then, is that America is still a nation that holds more closely to a Biblical understanding of origins than an atheistic understanding. Of course, this may not reflect in the individuals life but it is a starting point that can be used for evangelism purposes. People are open to a narrative other than what is being shoved down their throats by mainstream science.
